Katie Quinn Davies

Having originally trained as a graphic designer in her native hometown of Dublin, Ireland, Katie Quinn Davies spent over twelve years working as an Art Director and designer for some of the leading design studios in Europe, the U.S. and Australia. In 2009, Katie re-focused her career towards photography and now based in Sydney, Australia, works as a freelance commercial photographer specialising in food, lifestyle, interiors and travel.

Katie brings an organic quality to her photographic work, opting to present food and subjects in a relaxed and candid state. It is this style, which Martha Stewart Living described as “tactile, real and honest”, that Katie has become known for.

In her spare time as a sideline to her commercial work, Katie writes the acclaimed and internationally-recognised food photography blog; ‘What Katie Ate’, where she develops, cooks, styles and photographs each recipe.  The blog has a huge readership both in Australia and the United States thanks to Katie’s signature rustic style. Hollywood starlet Gwyneth Paltrow even listed What Katie Ate as one of her top 10 favourite food blogs on her lifestyle site Goop.com.

In October 2012, Katie’s first What Katie Ate cookbook was published by Penguin Books – containing 107 recipes that she wrote, cooked, styled and photographed herself. The book is currently sold in over 20 different countries worldwide and has been translated into 10 different languages. Her follow up cookbook, “What Katie Ate: At The Weekend”, which focused on entertaining and food from her travels, proved to be just as successful.

In May 2013, Katie was invited to attend the "Oscars of the culinary world", the prestigious James Beard Awards in New York City, where she was nominated in two categories; Best General Cookbook, and Excellence in Photography, the latter which she ended up winning. Katie has received a growing number of international photography awards over the past few years but she was extremely honoured to receive this recognition from her peers.

In June 2015, Katie was commissioned by Sainsbury’s, one of the United Kingdom’s largest supermarket chains, to shoot all of their Christmas collateral; from their food ordering catalogue to their online, point of sale and advertising campaigns in London. Spending 5 months working on the other side of the world is just one of the many amazing reasons why Katie loves her job.
