Melbourne-born ZAC STEINIC began his career in the arts after studying a degree incinema and media which he finished via exchange in Madrid, Spain. He then went on to graduate with a masters in design and multimedia design at Swinburne university. During university and immediately after, Zac worked as a camera operator on short films, music videos and television pilots, including shooting and directing various pieces of his own, as well as working as a freelance design consultant.
He was then asked to lecture at RMIT university, in the design portfolio as well as Advertising. His speciality courses were in Visual theory.
Still photography was always a passion when Zac was young, but the majority of his work earlier on his career was very much motion-based. It wasn’t until he was given the opportunity to shoot the cover and feature story of a start-up fashion magazine (after incessantly emailing the editor with pictures) that his love of stills photography was reignited. Flying by the seat of his pants, Zac bought his first digital camera the day before the shoot, borrowed some lighting from a defunct wedding photographer, and held back his nerves as his home (the location for the shoot) filled up with people. It was a 2 day shoot involving over 7 models.
Luckily his natural talent meant the shoot went off without a hitch and he was asked to continue on shooting for the magazine. Not soon after he took the plunge and moved to Sydney and has been a full-time fashion photographer ever since shooting for magazines such as Yen, Poster, Instyle, Culture, Papercut (NY), Idoll (NY) and Karen (NZ).
