Jeremy Simons is an awarding winning food, travel and portrait photographer. Whether he is on the road throughout Australia or Asia on a travel commission, working in his Sydney studio shooting a cookbook with a leading chef, or photographing an advertising campaign for a leading brand, his ability lies in creating striking images that leave a lasting impression.
Jeremy cut his teeth shooting interiors and architecture for a number of Sydney and Melbourne architect firms, however, he says the moment that enticed him into the sensory world of food photography was when the owners of renowned restaurant Longrain asked him to shoot for them. “After a short time, food became my everyday gig,” he says.
And it was a field Jeremy was already well-versed in. “Both my Mum (an ex-commercial cook) and the whole family are massive foodies,” says Jeremy. “So I grew up with a strong appreciation for the food and the people that produce, cook, and grow the food we eat.”
While Jeremy’s skill in capturing the fleeting moment is undeniable, it’s his curiosity and passion for the subject that sets him apart as one of Australia’s leading food photographers.
“I really thrive getting out on the land with growers and into kitchens with chefs to tell their stories through images,” says Jeremy. “Over the past 20 years, I have been lucky enough to have travelled all over the world photographing food and the people who transform it along its journey from raw produce to the finished plate or product.”
After 20 years in the industry, Jeremy still loves what he does, shooting everything from food and lifestyle to scapes and portraits. He has been fortunate enough to collaborate on campaigns and produce commercial content with some truly amazing clients, art directors, influencers and stylists from around the globe. Jeremy is also experienced with a variety of modalities from large format stills and motion cameras to drone and underwater equipment.
