Photographer Seung Rok Baek was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. After completing a degree in commercial photography from Seoul Art School, Seung Rok began his career in a photo studio that specialized in both still life and fashion photography. It was this experience in his formative years working on various creative projects that led him to realise he loved shooting both genres, and he has been fortunate to carve out a career in photography ever since.
“With still life, it is like a game or a puzzle. There is a challenge to find the right balance of shape, colour, texture, volume, composition and lighting. I also like to break the balance for a creative result which can make more interesting or artistic images", Seung Rok says.
In 2004, Seung Rok moved to Sydney for a two year placement shooting for a production company with clients including iconic Korean brands Samsung, LG and Hyundai as well as many fashion brands. After his contract ended, he decided to call Sydney his permanent home.
This relocation brought about new direction in Seung Rok’s career and he decided to study graphic design at Enmore Design Centre in order to bolster his technical photographic knowledge. As a result, Seung realised his love of colour, silhouette and tension - and strives to combine this bold composition with a strong narrative quality in every shoot.
